Last weekend we were invited to Bordeaux for a dinner party. We met our hosts (Pierre and Anne) when we were here 5 years ago. They are friends of Robert and Francoise who we met in Santa Barbara about 6 years ago. Anyway – we arrived on Friday and stayed with Pierre and Anne until Monday morning. The highlight of the weekend was definitely the fine dinner that Pierre and Anne prepared on Saturday night.
The Menu
Amuse Bouche (what we’d call an appetizer) homemade small muffins made with fois gras and chestnuts
Entrée (what we’d call the salad or 1st course) Arugula salad with mystery meat (but it was tasty)
Main course Roasted wild boar with a wine reduction sauce, caramelized figs and chestnuts (from their garden of course), potato gratin with wild cepes mushrooms (porcini)
Cheese course Plenty of yummy cheese
Dessert Tropical fruit medley with Valentins (an out-of-this-world little pastry from a local patisserie)
But let’s not forget about the wines – this group loves their fine wine. But they always play a game where they hide the label and everyone is supposed to guess where it is from and what year. We had a lovely bottle of Sauterne with the amuse bouche, a Lynch Bages for the main course and champagne for dessert. Pierre also brought out his selection of fruit brandies at the end of the night.
We all slept until noon the next day.
